THE MoE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The Men of Essence organization is dedicated to service and supporting educational initiatives. We are committed to meeting our mission of positively impacting the community. MoE has accepted the challenge to spawn innovative thoughts and perceptions concerning gay men of color: we do so all in an effort to provide positive imagery of ourselves within society when so many negative ones are already existent. Through our charitable efforts and community service initiatives, we know that our actions to help others will in turn help us to galvanize our social advancement and attempts to exstinguish derogatory stereotypes. The key to ensuring that change occurs throughout the community is encouraging education. Through proper educational channels, intolerance can be diminished while understanding and acceptance can be heightened.

Today's youth is tomorrow's leadership: this principle is the driving force behind the MoE Scholarship Program. We realize the importance of investing in our youth, and the development of the MoE Educational Grant is a testament to this fact. Not only does MoE hosts a backpack drive each year to aquire backpacks for youth benefitted by other nonprofit organizations, we also hosts events to acquire funds to build the MoE Educational Grant.

The MoE Educational Grant is intended to benefit young members of the LGBT community who are either college-bound or in college pursuing a fulltime, postsecondary course of study. We would like to encourage them to stay firm in trying to reach their goals despite any difficulties and intolerance of diversity they may face along the way.
